Weekly Reminders for week of 10.3.11~

Quote of the Week:  "Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing."   ~ David Starr Jordan

SLE of the Week:  SLE IV~ Globally Aware Citizen who follows the Golden Rule, serves others, respects all of God's creations and cares for the environment.

Academic Reminders:

  • Behavior logs from Friday due Monday with parent initials.
  • Thursday "Proud Parent" envelopes are due on Friday or Monday.  Please return the items that request parent signatures in the same weekly envelope.
  • Mathletics:  EACH student needs to work on his/her Math skills on the Mathletics site weekly to complete a total of at least 500 points.  The Mathletics site uses the Sunday-Saturday week schedule and points will be checked on a weekly basis so credit can be given.
  • American Math Challenge through Mathletics:  Warm up day will be held on Oct. 3 and the Math Challenge days will be on Oct. 12-13.  All students are "highly encouraged" to participate in this exciting & free challenge (homework points will be awarded to students across grade levels).
  • Religion:  In preparation for the Saint projects, in honor of All Souls' Day, EACH student needs to have chosen at least 3 Saint names that he/she would like to research for this report.  Saint names are due on Wednesday and will be randomly chosen in class on Wed./Thurs.  More project info will be sent home later this week.  Preference will be given to student or family Saint names, yet I would like the project to have 30 different Saints.  If your child does not have a Saint name by Thursday, one will be chosen with the child's assistance.
  • Spelling:  Unit 3 test and work packet due on Wednesday, 10/5.  Please ensure that your child is completing the worksheets, the Spelling page in the orange Practice Book and one of the activities listed on the page. Other activities using creativity are also accepted.
  • Reading:  Wolf story quiz will be on Friday, 10/7

Miscellaneous Reminders:

  • Coldstones' Fundraiser (Monrovia) will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5.  The class with the highest attendance will win a personal ice cream party with our own favorite creation.  *NO PRESSURE, but 3rd grade won last year and it may have to become a tradition.  I will be working from 4:00-5:15 and hope to see you there!!!
  • Blessing of the Animals:  This blessed event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7:45 am.  Please have your animals on leashes and bring your patience.
  • Mrs. Usle will sub on Tuesday, as I have a meeting to attend.
  • Please help your child discover Star News, locally and globally, and the news will be posted on our board.  The kids love sharing, but need encouragement.
  • October/November Military Troops Collection:  More information will be sent home soon, but at last week's staff meeting the topic was brought up.  Similar to last year, the school will be participating in a collection for our troops overseas.  Each class will be responsible for collecting certain items, which will be sent with letters, art work, etc.  I would like for our class to collect a certain amount of items, so that the kids can help create personal goody bags all bagged and wrapped by the kiddos.  I'm contemplating the idea of teaming up with our 6th grade buddies for this collection.
  • Friday's buddy activity & garden visit were a huge hit!  The kiddos can't wait to partake in both activities again and were already asking when they would happen.  Goodness, I wish I had their energy!

Tootles and Blessings~  Ms. Cambonga
