A brief trip to Arizona

Hi everyone.  I just want to let you all know I will be out of school and out of town this week from Thursday morning until Sunday night.

I will be driving to Flagstaff, Arizona, with my family, to attend my niece's graduation from Northern Arizona State University.

I will not be posting the homework on the 5th grade page Thursday or Friday.  You are free to step into the classroom after the dismissal bell on Thursday and Friday if you want to look at the homeowork board.

I will return to school on Monday morning.  If you need to reach me you can email me but I won't be able to respond to any emails until Monday.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Griffin

General Class Information

Homework:

  • Some work will be done in individual subject notebooks.
  • Some work will be done on a piece of paper to turn in.
  • Some homework will need a parent signature.
  • Some homework will be graded and returned to the student in the form of a packet for a parent signature.
  • Some work will be kept in a work portfolio for the next WASC Team

Absences/Late Arrivals: I will write the homework down and send any handouts and books, as needed, to the office the day of the absence if a parent requests them. Please call the office before 10am and arrange for a pick up between 2:45 and 3:00 in the school office.

If a student is absent and does not know what the assignments are, I suggest you have them contact a classmate the day of the absence, if possible, or in the evening, as to what they need to make up and what they missed in class on the day they are absent. If it is possible to begin working on the assignments before they return to school I encourage them to do so. The number of absent days is the number of days each student has to make up any absent work.

NOTE: If a student is absent or late arriving to school, they must bring a note from home to Mrs. Griffin explaining why they were absent or late and the date of absence or late arrival. Excessive tardiness may result in disciplinary action.

Absent Work: Work assigned when a student is absent needs to be made up by the student when he/she returns to class. The student should take the responsibility to find out what they missed but I will be available for assistance with each absent student if needed. Any notes taken while absent should be borrowed from a fellow classmate. The amount of time allowed to make-up work is equal to the number of day absent. Long term assignments are not included in this time frame, except with a few exceptions such as family or personal EMERGENCIES, which will be up to my discretion. In this case the work should be made up within a reasonable amount of time.

NOTE: Family vacations (other than illness)- If the student knew about the work due while they are out they will be expected to turn their work in the day they return from vacation. Credit for late work is worth half credit.

Late Work: If a student does not finish homework or classwork they will be given time at lunch to finish the work. It will then count as late and half credit will be given. Late work will be accepted but for half the amount of points.

Homework is considered reinforcement of skills taught/learned. It is to be completed and brought to class on the day due ( usually the next day ). Full credit is only given when the assignment is completed and collected on time. Homework left at home or turned in after it has been collected is considered late/missing work. If the student does not bring his/her homework or it is incomplete, they must fill out a Missing/Incomplete Homework sheet.

I will do my best to notify the parents of any student who has repeated homework violations. Continued and repeated violations will result in deficiency notices and after school detention as well as being taken off of the Blue Gold Society list. Additional information can be found in the parent handbook.
